At school I had to study Latin. I didn’t enjoy it, and couldn’t really see the point. We regarded it as a ‘dead’ language, and one that would have little relevance to our future lives. However, the older I get the more I wish I’d studied harder and taken more interest in Caesar’s letters to the Romans!
Latin has a way of saying things that stick in the memory and encapsulate exactly what you mean to say. A classic example is “Carpe diem”, which is popularly translated as “seize the day”.
In Hebrew there is a similar phrase which, when translated, is “And if not now, when?” (Pirkei Avoth 1:14).
Both the Latin and the Hebrew mean the same thing – it’s time to take action! No more procrastination, no more putting it off, no more looking for excuses.
This applies to so many things – whether it’s starting a new diet, or visiting the gym more frequently, …… or really launching out into internet marketing. There are so many reasons why we should, but so many excuses why we don’t.
I’m not suggesting for one moment that internet marketing is unique, but there seems to be so many people who have read the books, watched the videos and DVDs, purchased the courses … but then what? The books are back on the shelf, the videos and DVDs are put back into the cupboard, and the courses are diligently filed away.
About twelve months ago I attended a gathering of would-be internet marketers. There was so much enthusiasm, and almost religious intensity for the guest speaker. But when I spoke to many of them it became immediately apparent that internet marketing remained an elusive dream for the future.
Please understand that I am no different. I am a master procrastinator, a real expert at putting things off until tomorrow. But tomorrow will always remain tomorrow, and it’s so important to act today.
So, Carpe Diem!!! Seize the day! Ask yourself “if not today, then when?”. GFI – Go For It.
How? – make yourself accountable to others. Tell your nearest and dearest, your closest friends, write it down, blog it – whatever it takes. Make it uncomfortable not to do it. Get the message?
